Fashion Panel: The Business of Turning Dreams Into Reality Chaired by Lynn Wyatt
Thursday, May 06, 2010
Last night, Elaine shared a microphone with fellow Houstonians to discuss the future of the fashion business in Texas. The event was chaired by international fashion icon, Lynn Wyatt, and was moderated by former CFDA Program Director, Katie Campion. Fashion students, media, and fans filled the auditorium at CenterPoint Energy’s “Tower of Power” to listen to the discussion.
Event Chair, Lynn Wyatt charmed the audience with her warm personality, describing her personal style as “class, with a little bit of dash, but never trash!”
Fellow Houstonians and speakers included Janet Gurwitch, Founder and former CEO, Laura Mercier Cosmetics, David Hamilton of Hamilton Shirts, Laurann Claridge of Claridge + King, Clifford Pugh of CultureMap.com, and Gregory Fourticq, Jr. of Moo Boo's Clothing and R863 blouses.
The panelists took turns discussing their experience as fashion entrepreneurs in Houston. All agreed that passion, tenacity, and an ability to identify a void in the marketplace are the necessary spark of a smart business venture in fashion. These characteristics also serve as a foundation to lean on in a business that is known for its glamour, but also its grit. Houston’s unique positioning as an engineering and energy hub makes it an ideal location to start a business. Home to world class museums, Houston has only begun to show its creative side.
Elaine noted that Houston is like nowhere else in the world – not only is it a “can-do city” but the people support their own with Texas pride!
